Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This SE-one channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!

I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.

I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!

On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.

If you enjoy the channel make sure you hit subscribe and also tap the notification bell so that you are always notified when I release a new video.

All three are very valid .I can add that keeping your shoulders on plane on the backswing and downswing achieves all three with one swing thought .After 40 years of playing golf the shoulder on plane fixed almost all my inconsistency problems .Watch the pro,s from behind ,they are all very much on plane albeit achieving it with different ways to get there

The first drill is absolutely brilliant - I have watched many tips videos showing how to hit an iron, but that one simple drill gives you the proper 'feeling' of a good iron shot. Mind blown!

Further to my previous message,. 2 weeks now and I've continued the drill with great results. Never hit it straighter, no weak slices and mostly very straight. I urge everyone to use this drill to get the body moving forward. I'm a senior golfer and it's helped my overall game so much.

The one thing I can comment on is you saying back swing faster for faster front swing. Peter would have a different take on that. His back swing is slow, and he still has great front swing, and.... wins against you. I watch both of you guys. Just my input. I'm only trying to improve myself

Not your best video, Rick. By far not. It is indeed important to hit the little ball before you hit the big ball, as an Indian caddy once eloquently said to me when I hit it too thick. However, your drill to achieve that promotes excessive pelvic sliding, which necessitates an even faster trailing-hand movement just before impact. Otherwise, a slice will be the result. Also, clubhead speed is the result of three factors: proper basic swing technique (including the said trailing-hand movement), spinal rotational flexibility (also called the X factor) and rotational speed around the longitudinal axis of all involved body parts (from feet to shoulder girdle). Going for a maximum wind-up in the backswing is bad for ball contact and/or ball flight shape. As is a fast(er) backswing! The backswing-to-downswing ratio in pros is 2:1 (most men) to 4:1 (quite a few women), while many amateurs, including women, don't even get to 2:1. Furthermore, you'll have to tell the folks *how* they can control the curvature. This is what good instruction entails: what to do with which body part at what time (plus effective drills to achieve those actions). Lastly, there are more things that all pro golfers do the same, looking at the said body part + action + timing. Even Wolff and Woods in his glory days (McIlroy has a quirky pelvic movement, as can be seen on super slow motion). Frank Conijn, human movement scientist

As a chronic slicer I've also found this drill helpful to keep the ball straighter off the tee or off the deck. I assume it's because I'm forced to hit through the ball on a straight line and correcting the over the top swing plane. I'm also standing a little further from the ball with the hands slightly higher. Great drill Rick, working for me in a few ways.

Great tip, one thing that is super important though, make sure you stay behind the ball. Best way to do this is to pick a spot on the ball that you want to hit, the logo works well for this, and take slow practice swings, making sure you can see that logo until after you hit the ball. This came from another pro (Paul Wilson) and has helped my game immensely.

I’ve only played 2 courses, both just the front 9. I mainly go to the driving range to practice. Yesterday I did my first 18 holes and I golfed an even 100. A lot of people were impressed that I scored that well as someone who’s only played for 3 months and I gave all credit to you! Hopefully it inspires more people to come listen and watch your channel and podcast! Thank you!

I can't say I'm a great golfer (had a 5 handicap at one point in my life), but I disagree with the second point. I think a fast backswing might offer more speed on the downswing (but only minimal), but it also causes for a more unstable and inconsistent downswing which causes inaccuracy. I'd take more accuracy over 5 to 10 yards more distance any day.

Great point I agree with you. I am back playing (more practicing) after 17 years out. I used to play pretty well. I've changed my take away after a lesson and the slower more controlled on the back swing (building torque in the body) the further and straighter im hitting them. I can even stop before the down swing and finding it barely makes any difference to the distance. If the body is torqued correctly the energy is stored up to be realised. Trying to swing to hard just creates me problems. Tempo and rhythm is a massive thing in my game. Looking forward to getting out of isolation so I can practice again!

Rick, these tips will certainly help become a better golfer, however I feel to become more successful on the course, centers around the greens. Specifically when putting. " Drive for show, Putt for dough". I feel as long as you can hit the driver straight, distance doesn't really matter as much. Because if you get to the green in regulation, but can't make the putt, you will never put up the low scores that you are striving for.

Was taught, as Greg Norman says, to brush the grass when hitting the ball - so, really difficult to learn to hit down, ball first, & take divot past the ball. Best thing I found is the 7-iron version of the Tour Striker training club. MAKES you do it right! And when I backslide, I take it on course & hit it a few times & get back in the groove. For increasing speed, helps me to concentrate on swinging thru the ball (not thinking about hitting it), and make the shaft bounce off my back on the follow through. Biggest dif I see btwn pros & reg golfers is pros always keep leading arm completely straight on backswing, & thru the hitting area. C’mon Rick - show us hackers how to do that on every swing! Thx. Great videos!

Rick, I hit straight or a draw with every club other than my driver. My driver draws, goes straight or more often than not is a big push. Because of this I dont know where to aim off the tee, I often end up on the right side rough which is no good for my natural draw with my other clubs. Please do a short video on this. I'm starting to dislike playing!

In case Rick does not answer; my guess is that you rotate (aka release) the club head during the swing and sometimes you either don't or fail to time it. At least this is my problem and I have a similar experience though my push often even turns into a nasty slice when I get a little bit 'over the top' added to the swing. For me this started to happen as I began to hit more inside out and up on the ball, combined with club head release, for more distance. This probably intruduced some variation in my swing path (having been at a 0 path with straight but short drives) and of course this club head release which is a PIA to get right. I'm starting to think about going back but then again, I have seen the distnance I can get with my new swing when everything clicks, so it is kind of tempting to stay with it... I also agree on the dislike part. I used to have a reliable (although short) drive and now every time I put the ball on the T it is with some dispair and more often than not with a bad result following. 'Loosing' the hole after the first strike is certainly not enjoyable when one wants to improve.

I love your channel but I have to disagree with you on some of your tips. One of the main reason bad golfers hit the ball fat is because at set up their club is to far from the ball. So that tip may work with a better golfer but not a beginner. The second point is taking the club back faster most bad golfers take it back to fast already and they kinda bounce it off the top and lose club head speed. Its like a spring if you push it down slow then release it will shoot way up but if you push it down real fast and let go it loses all that pop. So once again that tip may be good for more skilled golfer but your average bad golfer tends to be on the fast side already.
